"The Roaring Twenties" was a time of great change to the country. After surviving World War I, the United States of America altered their views on many things, leaving behind their Victorian lifestyles in exchange for liberal outlooks on life. It was an age of prosperity and change, flappers and new freedoms and numerous pieces of art, including poetry. The twenties brought new poets, new styles and new topics to America's poetry (4)

Some of the terms and techniques the 1920's brought to poetry:

Surrealism- A new literary and artistic technique that revolves around the subconscious or the nonrational significance of imagery (3)
New Criticism- A new philosophy of literature that begins stressed readers to look at literature as an independent and complete work (2)
The Fugitive Poets- Southern American literary group that is active during the 1920s (2)
The Lost Generation- Group of American writers living Europe during the 1920s and 1930s (1)
